The Madness of King George III- posted from Westampton Township, NJ
The Stamp Act occured in 1765, when King George III had his first known bout with mental illness. Could his descent into madness cause the increased taxation against the colonists? Were the new tax acts being passed actions by his courtiers taking advantage of the resulting chaos? It's interesting to speculate.
Watch the second episode of the History Channel's series "America the story of Us". It is a VERY well made video history of the beginnings of America, the causes of the Revolutionary War, etc. Note: Does show mild violence (war is violent). Age appropriate for 11 years and up. My son really enjoyed this series, so much, that I purchased it on itunes for him so he may watch it whenever he wants. They also have a great video about the first settlers and colonies in episode one... GREAT for visual learners :)
