Once Upon a Time Story Book - posted from LOS ANGELES, CA

This is an out of print book which tours through different fairy tale lands - Neverland, Wonderland, Aladdin's kingdom, etc. It's a little like seek and find and uses map key, scale and map reading to "travel" through the lands. If you can find the hardback version at your local library - it's amazing. The maps fold out. I believe the paperback ones do not.

Map scale ruler - posted from Wichita, KS

For the activity to learn how to use a map scale it is easier for the student to do Option 2 with an engineer scale ruler that has inches divided into 10. This could be purchased by the parent. It would also be helpful for this to be added to the curriculum in the form of a cut-out ruler. Otherwise, converting divisions of sixteenths of an inch to divisions of 10 miles gets a little complicated for students of this age.
