Visual for grasshopper eggs :) - posted from Manchaca, TX

While reading Life Cycles, by Michael Ross, I had an idea. When we read that a grasshopper has between 20-150 eggs within a single pod, I immediately went to my food pantry. I quickly counted 20 pieces of rice and then 130. I showed my son what 20 looked like, explaining that 20 eggs were the minimum number of eggs within a pod. Then I combined the 130 with the 20 and explained that 150 eggs are the maximum amount of eggs within a pod. Although a bit time consuming, it really helped us both put the numbers into perspective. I put the 150 pieces into a pile and told him to imagine that they were incased by a pod. Then I spread them out flat and told him that each one of these eggs would become 150 grasshoppers. He was in awe.
