Adapting to Climate - posted from Macon, GA
As we got through the lesson on adapting to climate, we decided to watch "March of the Penguins," as Kim suggests in the lesson. We invited some friends over, made popcorn and lemonade and before the movie started, my daughter used the Penguin Puppet she had made to share with her friends the things she had learned about penguins and how they adapt to their climate. The other children chimed in with lots of things they knew about penguins and it was a beautiful student-led discussion. Then we all watched the movie, with the kids interjecting "Hey, that's what we learned!" over and over. It was so rewarding to see them retaining the knowledge and sharing with each other. Even our 4-yr-old demonstrated what she had learned. She ran upstairs partway through the movie to get her stuffed penguin, then she waddled around the room balancing it on her feet "just like the daddy penguins do!"
So much fun!
