They are NOT "American Indians". Indian people are from India. Indigenous people or Natives are the people who had their land stolen.

We use the terms American Indian and Native American interchangeably in our curriculum. While the term "Indian" began as a historical misidentification, it remains in common use today. We have also consulted with leaders from several tribes who have indicated that both terms are acceptable in their communities.
