The answer key to Activity 1 has been updated to include these two questions:
• The role of the U.S.:
At first, the United States tried to stay out of the war, but after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941, the U.S. joined the Allies. The U.S. helped by sending soldiers to fight in Europe and the Pacific, making weapons and supplies, and helping defeat Germany and Japan.
• How did the war end?
The war ended in 1945. Germany surrendered first after Allied forces defeated them in Europe. Then, the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and Japan surrendered soon after, officially ending World War II.
