This book is part of the Oxford Reading Tree series. The children go on a magic adventure to a community that is ruled by the Litter Queen. The Litter Queen loves garbage and is happiest when her kingdom is covered with filth. The children in the story realize how important it is to not litter, take care of their environment, and care for the community where they live.
The book, City Green, by DyAnne DiSalvo Ryan expands on this idea beautifully -- it's about a girl who helps make her inner city community nicer by working with others to build a community garden.
