1956 Martin Luther King "Montgomery Story" Comic Book - posted from Sebastian, FL

This is a comic printed in 1957 called Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story. It covers the 13-month Montgomery Bus Boycott starting with Rosa Park's arrest and shows Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s rise as a leader. It is what inspired Hollis Watkins and Curtis Elmer Hayes to participate in the Woolworth’s lunch counter protest in McComb, Mississippi.

It also inspired Ezell Blair and Joseph McNeill to stage boycotts in Greensboro, North Carolina. They and two other North Carolina Agricultural and Technical College students refused to give up their seats at a Greensboro Woolworth’s lunch counter.

Freedom's Ring - multimedia enrichment - posted from Sebastian, FL

"Freedom’s Ring is Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, animated. Here you can compare the written and spoken speech, explore multimedia images, listen to movement activists, and uncover historical context."

The index lets students explore the ideas covered in the I Have a Dream speech. There is historical context and topical context for the following themes:

A People's Dream
Economic Justice
Historical Threads
Love and Faith
Making Democracy Real
Tactics of the Movement
Tools of a Master Speaker

It also has an animated version of the speech, but I preferred the live footage with subtitles. The animated version has white letters on white background sometimes and was distracting for me. It may not be so for you, though!

King in the Wilderness - TV-14 movie - posted from Sebastian, FL

I watched King in the Wilderness with my son. Please check the parental advisory section because it has racist language and threats being used in the movie so you can decide if it is right to share with your child. I watched it before hand so I knew what to expect and when to guide him. It is a really, really good movie even if you don't watch it with your child for school and I enthusiastically recommend it to everyone! It can be rented on Prime video for $3.99

I printed out the speech for my daughter to follow along as she watched the video on YouTube. It was interesting to hear the crowd's responses and see the masses of people.
