Oklahoma city sit ins - posted from Sebastian, FL
While the Woolworth counter sit in is the most famous, Clara Luper should be credited for starting the movement. She staged the first sit in at Katz drug store in Oklahoma city. She also organized a sanitation worker strike in OK city and got the amusement park Wedgewood to desegregate using non-violent demonstration tactics. The OK city movement garnered a lot of national attention and drew celebrity activists, such as Charlton Heston, to help protest. This page is in remembrance of the movement and has a large selection of photos in chronological order. This is an article on Clara Luper's movement: https://www.pressreader.com/usa/the-oklahoman/20140629/281492159408714
