Have students track how many steps they take in 5, 10, and 15 minutes using a phone or pedometer. They record the data in a table and then graph it with time as the independent variable and steps as the dependent variable. If they're walking at a steady pace, the graph should form a straight line through the origin. Then, they calculate the constant of proportionality (steps per minute) using k = y/x. or No space to walk? No problem!
