Lesson 3: Classifying Animals

Raintree Perspectives Book Series - posted from Houston, TX

There is a book series from Raintree Perspective that discusses each classification. It picks one animal per book and examines it in detail to show the reason why it belongs to that class.
The author is Greg Pyers.

The titles are "Why am I an Insect?", "Why am I a Fish?", "Why am I a Mammal?" and so on through all 6 classes.

Simple text that fits nicely with the theme. I had my child read half on day one and half on day two, it's 60 pages long.

Book that gets them to think about animal classes - posted from Turtle Creek, PA

"Who's Like Me?" Although it is geared toward preschoolers, this (and the other books by the author in the series) has been a long time favorite for my child. It's a flip the flap book to get the child reader thinking about which attributes go with each classification. The illustrations are some of my favorites.
