There are several experiments that explore alternative energy. You can build a little solar car, make a tiny wind turbine, and several others. There are even kits that explore solar, wind, and water energy in the same kit. Barnes & Noble, Amazon, sometimes even Toys 'R Us, and many other places sell them.


Renewable power source - posted from Renton, WA

If there aren't many sources of renewable energy near you, a good video on the topic might be this tour of a hydroelectric plant just east of Seattle. It's commercially produced by the power company, but gives a fun and factual glimpse inside the unseen power plant.
