Civil War Final Project - posted from ,
My daughter was very fascinated with the Civil War unit, however, she was not enthusiastic at all with the Civil War final project options. Since we've also been playing catch up, time was an issue too. So, she opted to make a "Civil War" scrapbook that included creative ways to showcase her work during the unit. She glued a pocket on one page out of construction paper and tucked in her Slavery quilt. She made a lot of fold out pages as well. This option was a lot of fun for her and allowed her to use more of her creative and art skills. I gave her two days to complete the project and made my own Rubric.

Civil War Tent Fun - posted from cold spring, MN
We are taking all the projects our daughter makes, and are putting them all together in a 'real life' Civil War display. We will hang a tarp, or get a tent to decorate. My daughter has knit rags, made a small piece work quilt, about 12"x 12" that she will debut. She will display all the items she makes during this project. We are going to borrow a cot and my daughter is going to 'decorate' the tent with all the projects she has completed. We will add some things like a wool blanket from home and maybe a picture or two she draws. She will even have her haversack she packed for the night in the corner! Kids love to camp out and she will spend a night in her Civil War tent. Inviting friends and grandparents for a tour, all while wearing her prairie dress costume will add to the fun. They are going to have a campfire and roast wieners outside her tent one night and we will keep it up for a couple of days. Maybe even invite some others for a tour. Life is good!
