Wildflower Art Projects - posted from ,
We collected some wildflowers from our area and then used solar print paper to make prints of their shapes. We also considered pressing some flowers but did not have time for both projects. I also found a project to DIY solar paper using construction paper
Books to Compliment wildflower lessons - posted from ,
We checked these 2 books out of the library and they both were interesting and engaging for my 7 and 8 year olds.
Plant a Pocket of Prairie by Phyllis Root - This book highlights many of the native wildflowers in the prairie and midwest region, its a beautifully illustrated book and has a great guide to the different species in the back of the book.
Prairie Dog Song by Susan Roth - This book highlights many animals that live in the prairie and is not just about prairie dogs specifically. Its written in verse with an informative paragraph about the natural history of the animal on that page. This book is long so my kids broke their reading up into sessions.
Home on the Range Song - posted from Wichita, KS
The printed song has some errors (quarter notes that should be eighth notes in several places). We used this as an additional lesson opportunity. Since each measure should have three beats we looked for the measures that had too many beats and made the corrections needed.

Instead of making this in one day we decided to do one flower a day. If there is a way that the flower was used we will attempt to do that. For example, some flowers were infused to use as a remedy. We are boiling chamomile flowers to make tea to treat a cold.
Book my child can't put down - posted from Turtle Creek, PA
She is enjoying the National Geographic's First Pocket Guide to Wildflowers. Easy to read and includes myths and other interesting tidbits associated with the flowers. She wants to now check out the rest of the books in the series from the library.
Visit a Nature Center to research and look at wildflowers in your state. - posted from Cary, NC
It is currently almost Spring in NC where we live. We plan to go in a few weeks to visit the Prairie Ridge Ecosystem in Raleigh, NC. We hope to learn about native NC wildflowers and learn more about the remnant prairies that used to exist in the state. They have a Neighborhood Garden with native plants and wildflowers and have re-purposed an old cow pasture into a prairie. For others in NC, this may be a fun excursion or you may find something similar in your own state.
Wildflower information - posted from Mechanicsville, VA
This site has information on a couple of the flowers in the chapter that I couldn't find on the other 2 sites.
