Ecosystem Games on-line - posted from Soldotna, AK
PBS Kids' "Plum Landing" had several ecosystem games with the goal of keeping a healthy balanced ecosystem over the course of 12 days. The games provide some "hands-on" manipulation to see how changes impact ecosystems. We played "Mountain Scramble," but "Make a Mangrove," "Jungle Jeopardy," and "Feed the Dingo" are also options.

The Survival Game - posted from camp lejeune, NC
We adjusted this game and made a bigger lesson out of it than was originally intended. We played the game as instructed and found that we did not get very far at all. So we did some math to see the total of forward move spaces and the total of backward move spaces. The difference was only 3 spaces, hence why we didn't get to survive. So we looked at the negative move cards and broke them into natural vs. man made. We picked the man made negative cards and changed them to positive cards by fixing the problem. We played the game again and were able to survive, showing that by fixing some man made negative impacts it would have a huge impact on survival of endangered species. What a huge take away that was! my 9yr old really got that!
