Activity 2 tips - posted from Alameda, CA
For activity 2 we couldn't get the nail to be magnetized so instead we placed the neodymium magnet inside a small dry plastic bowl, then we place the small bowl inside a bigger bowl with water. The small bowl rotated in the water until one pole of the magnet was pointing north. We also tried the same thing with the red-blue magnet and the north end did point to the north. Attached is a photo.
