As others have said, our family wanted to honor the true story of Thanksgiving and not a white washed version. We chose to skip the book that came with the curriculum and read books by native authors instead. Here are some of the books we grabbed from the library.

Though my child just turned five, I want to encourage his mind to frame the historical events surrounding Thanksgiving in a socially responsible way. PBS Kids has a few resources that I enjoyed reading, and then I loved incorporating this book "We are Grateful" by Traci Sorrell into our lessons this week- especially since the vocabulary word was "grateful!" We read Thanksgiving Is, but I modified the language a little bit, and we spent a lot of time on a few of the days focusing on Native Americans in the 1600s AND now, rather than only on the pilgrims. Attached is the video of the book being read.
