- The writing process typically does not proceed in a straight line; writers may go back and produce more than one draft, use prewriting techniques while drafting to generate new ideas, and alternate between drafting and revising.
- Using proofreading symbols and abbreviations can help you find and correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors.
- Even if you use your computer's spelling checker, you still need to read carefully through your paper to find possible misspellings. A spelling checker, for example, won't underline a word that is spelled correctly, but is the incorrect word used altogether, which is a common mistake when typing.
