Lesson 1: Feelings
- During the teenage years, your hormones change, resulting in changes in your emotions.
- You have the power to think about yourself positively and to make positive behavioral choices.
Lesson 2: Being a Smart Consumer
- Advertisers often make claims that are not entirely true about their products.
- A fad is something that has a lot of popularity for a short period of time.
Lesson 3: Healthy Body
- A communicable disease is an infectious disease; pathogens that cause the disease can be spread from one organism to another.
- A pathogen is a germ that causes disease.
- A chronic disease is a disease with a long-term duration and generally slow progression.
Lesson 4: Healthy Relationships
- Conflict can be approached with a "win-win" mentality, in which each party can have a satisfactory result.
- Teenagers need to be aware of the possible drawbacks to sexual encounters, such as pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
- Bullying is attacking, threatening, teasing, or purposefully excluding someone.
Lesson 5: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs
- A drug is a medicine or substance that affects the body when introduced into the body.
- All drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, work by speeding up or slowing down the body's functions.
- For teens there is no "safe" amount of or use of drugs and alcohol.
Lesson 6: Nutrition and Exercise
- An hour a day of exercise is a good goal for optimal health.
- Nutrition labels include important information about prepared foods, including the serving size, calories, nutrient value, and fats and sugars included in the food.
- Your BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measure of the healthiness of your weight for your height.
Final Project: Personal Health Plan
- Accountability means asking someone else to hold you responsible to the changes you have planned.
