- Urban means in the city.
- A three-dimensional shape stands on its own and is not flat.

- Different communities have different types of community workers.
Lesson 3: Goods and Services
- Communities provide goods and services for the people who live in them.
- Goods are items that we purchase in the community to use or eat.
- A service is something someone does for us.
Lesson 4: Wants and Needs
- Goods and services are what we buy to satisfy our wants and needs.
- A need is something we must have to be healthy or safe.
- A want is something we would like to have.
Lesson 5: Money
- Money is what we earn when we work.
- Money is what we use to buy goods and services.
Lesson 6: Uses of Money
- People spend, save, and give money they earn.
- People work for money.
- People use money to purchase goods and services to satisfy their wants and needs.
Lesson 7: Work and Money
- People have limited amounts of money.
- People have to decide how to use the money they have.
- When people work together, they can often get a job done more quickly.
Lesson 8: Customs and Holidays
- On Memorial Day we remember and honor people who have died to serve and protect our country.
- On the Fourth of July we celebrate America's birthday, the day America became a country.
Lesson 9: Different Communities
- Communities can have things that are the same and things that are different.
- Research means to look for information when you want to learn more about something or find the answer to a question.
Lesson 10: Communities Change
- A natural resource is something used by humans that is found in nature.
- A human resource is something used by humans that is made by humans.
- History is the story of important events that have happened in the past.
Lesson 11: Government and the People
- To vote means to express your choice between two or more options.
- A tally mark can be used to keep track of one event or object.
Lesson 12: Rules and Laws
- A consequence happens because of a decision you made. Consequences can be good or bad.
- A law is an order set up by government that tells people how to behave.
- A rule describes the behaviors that are expected of the people who belong to a group.
- A person in authority enforces rules or laws and applies consequences when rules or laws are not followed.
