We used canva and it worked out very well. My son really enjoyed doing this project and seeing how our community has or has not changed over time.

We used the canva app to prepare text and images in the appropriate size on a blank brochure template, then had him cut them out and glue on construction paper. For the sake of time, I took his typed sentences and chosen images, formatted them and printed them myself, and had him assemble.

However, there are a ton of pre-designed templates and tools and if you are so inclined, you could help your child do the entire brochure on the app and print it off.

This is a free download as of Aug 19, 2020 and contains a good list of information to include in a travel brochure.

Here is a tri-fold brochure template for this activity. Please note that it is designed for A4 size paper, which is slightly different from 8 1/2" x 11" paper.

Tasha, we're taking your idea of doing this on the computer, but we're going to use our pictures that we took in our community and put them in our brochure. This is a perfect project for my almost 7-year-old. She loves to use the camera and she always wants to try to do things on the computer that she sees her older siblings doing.

For the community brochure, to use a more technological approach, you can have your child create it in Microsoft Word or Publisher (or similar program). Pointing out how to create text boxes, color the boxes, and arranging graphics/text boxes can increase their knowledge of computer skills they will eventually need when they create presentations in the future. Learning methods of browsing the internet for pictures of your community, with adult guidance is also a beneficial skill.
