Age 12-14 - Semester 1 - Science Kit

$80.00

The Age 12-14 - Semester 1 - Science Kit provides specialized materials for hands-on investigations in the following units

  • Atoms
  • Chemical Reactions
  • Energy and Matter
  • Biochemistry
  • Microbiology and Cell Theory

These activities help students observe evidence of invisible particles, test household substances for pH, measure energy transfer, identify biomolecules in foods, and investigate how water moves through cells.

Engage Your Child with a Hands-on Science Curriculum

This kit includes over 80 materials used in experiments throughout the semester. Here are a few examples your child will complete.

  • Discover Evidence of Matter You Cannot See: Your child heats water in a sealed milk jug, measures its mass, and observes how the jug changes as it cools. The results connect visible changes in the container to the movement of particles too small to see.
  • Explore How Gases Affect Heat: Your child creates model atmospheres in bottles, predicts which will become warmest, and measures temperature changes under a light source. Comparing the results demonstrates how different gases can affect the amount of energy trapped.
  • Test Foods for Biomolecules: Your child tests familiar foods for lipids and starch using brown paper and diluted iodine. Translucent stains and blue-black color changes provide visible evidence of different biomolecules in food.
  • Observe Osmosis in Plant Cells: Your child places a potato in salt water, predicts the result, and later moves it to fresh water. Changes in firmness demonstrate how water moves across cell membranes through osmosis.

A Complete Hands-On Science Experience

Hands-on science can require families to gather specialized supplies for many different investigations. This kit provides materials used throughout the semester’s activities, reducing preparation and helping parents focus on guiding experiments, observations, measurements, comparisons, and scientific conclusions.
