Math Student Activity Book - Semester 2
The Math Student Activity Book – Semester 2 contains student activity pages that align with the lesson plans in the Math Parent Manual – Semester 2. Throughout the second semester of the math curriculum for ages 6-8, students use these pages to build on their understanding of place value and number relationships as they work with three-digit numbers and more complex calculations. They also develop practical math skills by interpreting time, calculating the value of coins, and collecting and organizing information to identify patterns and make comparisons.
If you are using the hard copy version of this curriculum with more than one child, you should order a separate Student Activity Book for each additional child you are teaching.
The following examples highlight just a few of the ways students use the activity pages to organize their thinking, document their discoveries, and complete hands-on projects:
- Three-Digit Expanded Form: Students use the activity pages to match three-digit numbers with their expanded forms by cutting out number pieces and gluing them into the correct spaces, reinforcing how hundreds, tens, and ones work together to represent larger numbers.
- Matching and Writing Times: Students cut out analog clocks, digital times, and word forms and group matching times together. They also complete activity pages by drawing clock hands and writing times in digital and word form, including hour and half-hour times.
- My Piggy Bank: Students roll a die and use a key on the activity page to determine which coins to color. After filling a coin column, they calculate the total value of the colored coins and record the amount in their piggy bank.
- Weather Data and Graphing: Students record daily temperatures and weather conditions, then create a weather pictograph. They also use temperature data to create a bar graph or line plot, adding titles and labels to represent their observations.
- My Book of Graphs: Students collect three sets of data from around their home and organize each set using tally marks. They choose a pictograph, bar graph, or line plot to display each set, then assemble their completed graphs into a book with titles, labels, and descriptions.
The Student Activity Book is not designed to be used independently. The Math Parent Manual – Semester 2, required literature, and math materials kit are also required to implement the curriculum.
