Age 6-8 Math Materials Kit
The Age 6-8 Math Materials Kit provides materials used in Age 6-8 math activities throughout the full year. Students divide counters into equal groups, build arrays, regroup ones into tens, measure changes in length, and divide a clock into quarter hours as they develop number sense, place value, measurement, geometry, and time skills.
Hands-On Learning Makes Math Memorable
This kit provides over 40 materials used in activities throughout the math units. Here are a few examples your child will complete.
- Identify Patterns in Odd and Even Numbers: Your child uses counters to divide numbers from 1 through 20 into equal groups. Comparing which quantities divide evenly helps your child recognize that even numbers can form two equal groups while odd numbers cannot.
- Build Place Value by Regrouping: Your child rolls dice, adds the values, and collects that many ones. Each time 10 ones accumulate, they are exchanged for one ten. Repeating the exchange makes the relationship between ones, tens, and hundreds visible.
- Connect Arrays with Repeated Addition: Your child uses counters and sticky notes to design buildings with windows arranged in equal rows and columns. Building and comparing these arrays helps connect equal groups with repeated addition.
- Understand Quarter Hours as Fractions: Using a geoboard, rubber bands, and a geared clock, your child divides a circle into four equal parts and connects each quarter with 15 minutes. Moving the clock hands shows how fractions of an hour relate to 15, 30, and 45 minutes.
Making Hands-On Math Easier to Implement
Children often understand math more clearly when they can move, build, measure, and compare what they are learning. The Age 6-8 Math Materials Kit provides materials that support this type of learning, helping children connect what they see and do with the mathematical ideas they are developing.
