This item provides online access to Math Unit - Skills Review. The digital curriculum is identical to the hard copy curriculum.

Math Unit – Skills Review brings together major concepts and skills covered throughout the year. Students revisit fractions, decimals, order of operations, measurement, volume, geometry, data representation, and coordinate planes through focused review activities. They order fraction cards, generate and compare decimals with dice, solve volume and missing-dimension problems, construct polygons, and graph data on a coordinate plane. The unit emphasizes cumulative practice rather than introducing a new major topic.

At a Glance

Age Range: Ages 9-11 (usually 5th grade)
Estimated Time Commitment: 4 lessons, approximately 45 minutes each
Prerequisites: Prior experience with fractions, decimals, order of operations, measurement, geometry, and coordinate planes.
Student Independence: Designed for students to work independently, with parent support as needed
Includes: Student-directed review lessons, parent guidance, student activity pages, answer keys, and linked instructional videos

Key Features

  • Cumulative Skills Review: “Review: Ordering Fractions” has students arrange fractions and mixed numbers from least to greatest, while “Reading, Writing, and Comparing Decimals” uses dice-generated numbers to review place value, comparison, and rounding through thousandths. Later lessons return to measurement, geometry, data, and coordinate concepts.
  • Number and Operations Practice: Students review equivalent fractions and fraction addition and subtraction, then complete “Fraction Multiplication and Division Input/Output Tables.” Decimal work includes “Decimal Addition and Subtraction,” “Multiplying and Dividing Decimals,” and “Powers of 10 and Exponents,” while a music video and online game reinforce PEMDAS.
  • Measurement and Geometric Reasoning: In “Volume of Rectangular Prisms,” students calculate volume from dimensions or base area and find the volume of a composite prism. “Missing Dimensions” asks them to work backward from known volumes, and additional problems require students to draw squares and rectangles that meet specified area or perimeter measurements.
  • Data and Spatial Representation: Students construct and interpret the “Swim Team Line Plot,” build specified polygons such as a regular dodecagon and concave octagon, and create a coordinate plane before plotting ordered pairs. In “Coordinate Plane Data,” they graph corn growth over time and interpret changes shown in the data.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  • Compare and order fractions, mixed numbers, and improper fractions.
  • Apply fraction and decimal operations in review problems.
  • Read, compare, round, and represent decimals through the thousandths.
  • Apply powers of 10, exponents, and order of operations.
  • Convert customary units and solve perimeter, area, volume, and missing-dimension problems.
  • Construct and classify specified polygons using geometric vocabulary.
  • Create and interpret line plots, coordinate points, and line graphs.
  • Use ordered pairs and coordinate planes to represent and interpret data.

Math Unit – Skills Review brings number operations, measurement, geometry, and data skills into a concise four-lesson sequence. By moving among computation, visual representations, applied measurement problems, and coordinate graphing, students revisit major concepts through varied forms of practice rather than a single review format.
