Age 9-11 Math Materials Kit
The Age 9-11 Math Materials Kit provides materials used in the full year of Age 9-11 math activities. Students build seven-digit numbers with number cards, model decimal division, compare equivalent fractions with fraction strips, and construct three-dimensional forms with centimeter cubes as they develop place value, operations, fractions, and volume skills.
Build a Deeper Understanding of Math Concepts
This kit provides almost 20 materials used in activities throughout the math units. Here are a few examples your child will complete.
- See How Place Value Changes a Number: Your child draws number cards and chooses where to place each digit while building a seven-digit number. Comparing the finished numbers shows how each digit’s position affects its value and why larger digits have more impact in higher place values.
- Make Decimal Division Visible: Your child represents decimal quantities with base-10 drawings and separates them into equal groups. Examples such as dividing 2.8 into four parts connect decimal division with equal sharing, while regrouping shows how place value continues to work with decimals.
- Identify Equivalent Fractions with Fraction Strips: Your child combines fraction strips and compares their lengths to find equivalent fractions, then searches for additional matches. The physical pieces show that fractions such as 1/3 and 2/6 use different numbers but represent the same amount.
- Build Volume with Centimeter Cubes: Your child uses centimeter cubes to construct block letters with specific volumes, such as 18 or 24 cubic units. Creating different designs while using the required number of cubes shows how volume is measured and how different three-dimensional forms can have the same specified volume.
Making Hands-On Math Easier to Implement
Math concepts can be easier to understand when children can arrange numbers, compare fraction pieces, and build three-dimensional models themselves. The Age 9-11 Math Materials Kit provides manipulatives used throughout these activities, giving your child concrete ways to test mathematical relationships and connect abstract ideas with something they can see and handle.
