Age 10-12 Math Materials Kit
The Age 10-12 Math Materials Kit provides materials used in the full year of Age 10-12 math activities. Students evaluate exponents with number cards, plot coordinates across four quadrants, connect percentages with fractions and decimals, measure circles to investigate pi, and model three-dimensional cross sections as they develop operations, rational numbers, geometry, and algebra skills.
Build a Deeper Understanding of Math Concepts
This kit provides materials used in activities throughout the math units. Here are a few examples your child will complete.
- Apply Exponents Through Game Play: Your child draws number cards to create a base and exponent, evaluates the expression, and compares the result with another player. Each correct calculation affects the Tic-Tac-Toe game, providing repeated practice with how exponents represent repeated factors.
- Connect Coordinates with Position: Your child designs and plays a game using all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Locating positions with ordered pairs reinforces how positive and negative x- and y-coordinates determine a point’s exact location.
- Connect Percentages, Fractions, and Decimals: Your child shades a grid to represent a quantity, then expresses the same amount as a percentage, fraction, and decimal. Comparing each form shows that the notation can change while the represented value stays the same.
- Investigate the Meaning of Pi: Your child measures the circumference and diameter of several circles and divides each circumference by its diameter. Comparing the results reveals a consistent ratio of approximately 3.14, connecting direct measurement with the meaning of pi.
Making Hands-On Math Easier to Implement
More advanced math becomes easier to understand when children can model, measure, manipulate, and test the ideas they are learning. The Age 10-12 Math Materials Kit supports this type of learning, giving your child concrete ways to examine mathematical relationships and connect visual models with abstract concepts.
