Math Unit - Skills Review (/Online)
This item provides online access to Math Unit - Skills Review. The digital curriculum is identical to the hard copy curriculum.
Math Unit – Skills Review is a homeschool math curriculum for ages 10–12 that revisits major concepts taught earlier in the year. Across four lessons, students review computation, rational numbers, fractions, ratios and rates, coordinate planes, algebra, and geometry. Activities such as “Operations With Decimals,” “Working with Ratios,” “Algebraic Expressions,” and “Circles and Scale Drawings” combine procedural practice with applied problems.
At a Glance
Age Range: Ages 10–12 (usually 6th grade)
Estimated Time Commitment: 4 lessons, approximately 45 minutes each
Prerequisites: Prior experience with number operations, fractions, ratios, algebra, coordinate planes, and geometry
Student Independence: Designed for students to work independently, with parent support as needed
Includes: Student-directed review lessons, parent guidance, student activity pages, answer keys, and online practice activities
Key Features
- Comprehensive Skills Review: Students revisit whole-number and decimal operations in “Operations With Decimals,” then review greatest common factor, least common multiple, prime factorization, the distributive property, and order of operations in “Factors and Multiples.” Online practice also reinforces ordering positive and negative numbers and absolute value.
- Rational and Proportional Reasoning: “Operations with Fractions” reviews all four operations with fractions and mixed numbers through numerical and applied problems. In “Working with Ratios,” students work with equivalent ratios, rates, and unit rates, while “Coordinate Plane” extends rational-number work to reflections, distances, and plotting points with positive and negative coordinates.
- Algebraic Reasoning: In “Algebraic Expressions,” students identify terms, coefficients, constants, and variables; translate verbal phrases; evaluate expressions; and simplify expressions. “Equations and Inequalities” moves into solving equations and inequalities and interpreting solutions in situations involving earnings, division, and spending constraints.
- Geometric Problem-Solving: “Angles Triangles, and Area” combines complementary, supplementary, and vertical-angle relationships with area problems involving rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and composite figures. Students also review surface area and volume before using “Circles and Scale Drawings” to calculate circle measurements and solve scale-factor problems.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- Perform whole-number, decimal, and fraction operations in numerical and applied problems.
- Find factors and multiples and apply order of operations and the distributive property.
- Order rational numbers and interpret absolute value.
- Solve problems involving ratios, rates, unit rates, and coordinate planes.
- Interpret, evaluate, and simplify algebraic expressions.
- Solve and interpret equations and inequalities.
- Apply angle relationships and area formulas to two-dimensional figures.
- Calculate circle measurements, surface area, volume, and scale relationships.
Math Unit – Skills Review provides a focused review of mathematics concepts from earlier units without introducing a new major topic. Through activity pages, online practice, games, quizzes, and reference to the Interactive Notebook, students revisit computation, proportional reasoning, algebra, and geometry in a concise four-lesson sequence.
This item includes online access to Beyond the Page Online for 18 months. This includes Learning Gates, Portfolio and any curriculum or student activity pages that you have purchased.
