Age 6-8 Reading Materials Kit
The Age 6-8 Reading Materials Kit provides all the materials you need for the full year of the Age 6-8 Reading Program. Children practice sight words, vowel patterns, syllables, vocabulary, and reading comprehension by building words, comparing language, solving word puzzles, and using movement to reinforce what they read.
Make Your Child's Reading More Engaging
This kit provides materials used in reading activities throughout the year. Here are a few examples your child will complete.
- Compare How Describing Words Change: Your child builds and arranges block shapes by height, then compares drawings and familiar objects using words such as tall, taller, and tallest. By ordering and comparing objects, your child connects visible differences with comparative -er and superlative -est forms and learns how adjectives communicate differences.
- Build Faster Sight Word Recognition: Your child listens for a sight word and tosses a pom pom toward the matching word in a muffin tin. Reading the words aloud and taking turns provides repeated practice connecting spoken words with their printed forms, helping your child recognize familiar sight words more accurately and fluently.
- Explore Long-Vowel Word Patterns: Using the Magic Hat activity, your child combines letters to create long-vowel words, reads each result, and checks whether the combination forms a real word. Testing different possibilities helps your child apply long-vowel spelling patterns and distinguish meaningful words from unsuccessful letter combinations.
- Discover How Syllables Build Longer Words: Your child moves and combines syllable pieces to form words such as basket, magnet, pumpkin, and hamster. After testing combinations, your child matches completed words with pictures, writes them, and reads them aloud. This makes closed syllables easier to recognize and shows how smaller word parts combine into longer words.
- Identify Homophones in a Story: Your child reads The Knight and the Night Ride and searches the story for homophone pairs such as knight/night, rode/road, and here/hear. Finding the words in context helps your child see that homophones sound the same but have different spellings and meanings.
Hands-On Tools for Growing Reading Skills
Reading skills become more concrete when children can move, sort, compare, and combine words instead of practicing only on a worksheet. The Age 6-8 Reading Materials Kit supports these active lessons with materials used throughout the full year. Cards and other hands-on materials give children something they can see, move, and test, helping them stay engaged while making new reading concepts easier to understand in a concrete way.
