Abel’s Island is a key component within our literature based curriculum, serving as the primary text for three weeks. Here are a few ways we utilize this text:

• Environmental Studies: Students delve into Abel's ecosystem, comparing and contrasting it with various habitats around the world. This exploration is enriched by hands-on activities such as creating detailed habitat maps and researching local wildlife.
• Creative Writing and Arts: Drawing from Abel's adventures, students engage in creative projects such as writing alternative endings to the story, crafting diaries from Abel's perspective, or illustrating key moments from the book. 
• Survival Skills and Problem-Solving: Abel's journey is a tale of survival. Students are tasked with designing their own survival plan, should they find themselves on a deserted island. They research natural resources, develop shelters, and brainstorm strategies to overcome challenges.
• Character Analysis and Ethics: Reflecting on Abel's character growth, students participate in discussions and assignments that examine moral dilemmas, personal growth, and the importance of perseverance. Through essays or presentations, they articulate their insights into Abel's experiences and decisions.
